The peak is that height which precludes both the desires and resentments that compete with it.  Fortunately, the process supports itself: I could not be this last step without having had those two to push off from.  Gratitude for having been strengthened by an injury is no longer resentment.  The desirability of resisting stunting desires grows with self-knowledge and is real.
