The consequences of a spark can be great, but that does not therefore make the spark great.  One must not only be flint and steel ... not just powder ... nor the explosion itself ... but also the restriction, the calibrated cylinder ... the shot ... most of all, the aim.

A theory of art

Interest is not in what you see. It’s in what you don’t see. It is sensed incompleteness completed reflexively by the spectator.
