The largest obstacle to erecting the higher goal is the admission that the previous goal had been a blunder, for one has already sacrificed too much for it: “After all that, to give up and go back ... now!”  One’s mind is now in the struggle for labels.  Which goal will be found “Good” and which, “Evil,” depends entirely upon one’s ability to be a “failure” and a “quitter” ... again.
